MAJOR GENERAL JOHN P. HRONEK II

Major General John P. Hronek is Adjutant General for the State of Montana; serving as Commander of the Montana National Guard and the Director of the Department of Military Affairs. He is responsible to the Governor of Montana to provide Army and Air National Guard military forces that are ready to deploy worldwide and accomplish military missions in support of national defense, homeland security, natural disasters, domestic emergencies, and military support to state and local governments. . As The Adjutant General Major General Hronek serves on the Governor’s cabinet as the principal military advisor and is responsible to the Governor for State Disaster and Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Veteran Affairs, Counter-Drug Support to Civilian Law Enforcement, the Montana National Guard Youth Challenge Program and the STARBASE Program. Prior to his appointment as the Adjutant General he served as the Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander, Air Education and Training Command. In this position he assisted with formulating, developing, and coordinating policies and programs impacting more than 107,700 Air National Guard members. The command operates more than 1,400 trainer, fighter and mobility aircraft, 23 wings, 10 bases and five geographically separated units training more than 293,000 students per year.

He is a command pilot with over 4,100 hours in the F-106, F-16, F-15C, and C-130H. General Hronek served as the NGB Director of A5/8/9 Plans, Programs and Requirements, Air National Guard Readiness Center, Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, Assistant Adjutant General, Montana Air National Guard, Chief of Staff, Montana Air National Guard and Commander of the 120th Airlift Wing in Great Falls, MT, where he led the Wing in two major aircraft conversions from the F-16C to the F-15C and the F-15C to the C-130H. He has served three combat tours in Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia, Kirkuk Air Base, Iraq and Balad Air Base, Iraq.

Senior Enlisted Leader

COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR ROBERT C. TERRIO

Command Sergeant Major Robert Terrio is the Senior Enlisted Leader of the Montana National Guard. He mentors a brigade located across 4 states, to include Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Nevada.

CSM Terrio was raised in Helena, Montana and attended Capital High School. CSM Terrio previously worked for Dick Anderson Construction for over 30 years. CSM Terrio and his wife Tara also own and operate Montana Concrete Lifting, and have two daughters, Alyx and Aryn.

CSM Terrio’s military service began in 1987, enlisting into the Montana National Guard as a 12B, Combat Engineer. CSM Terrio spent eight years as a Combat Engineer, then joined the 3669th GS Co. with training opportunities in Germany before transitioning to the Regional Training Institute as a Small Group Instructor, and later Combat Arms Branch Chief, including multiple missions from 2004-2005 to Kyrgyzstan as an advisor and instructor for the Kyrgyzstani military. In 2009, CSM Terrio assumed duties as the First Sergeant of A Co, 1-163rd CAB, guiding the unit through a successful deployment to Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. After returning from Iraq, he moved to the First Sergeant position of HHC, 1-163rd CAB. He was subsequently selected as the Command Sergeant Major for 1-163 CAB in 2013 and helped lead his battalion through an NTC rotation and Operation Saber Guardian in Romania. In November, 2016, CSM Terrio was selected as the Command Sergeant Major for the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team. While with the 116th CBCT, he participated in missions to Thailand and Cambodia along with another NTC rotation in 2019. CSM Terrio assumed the duties as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the State of Montana in December 2020.
